Latin disgusts is his wife’s taste of false jewelry. However, after she died, his income cannot bear his expense, so he wants to sell those “false” gems to make a living.

When he sells those gems, he finds that her virtuous is false and the jewelry is true. The exaggerated reaction shows that he is angry and is grieving that his wife he loves betrayed him. His grief does not last a very long time. In “Gimped the Fool,” Gimped is deceived by his wife, Elk, who is now as a prostitute in his town, at the beginning of their marriage. Gimped obviously knows that the baby is not his, but he still loves the child. He seems to be a dump, but forgiving his wife and loving the bastard shows how magnanimous and kindness he is.

Even Gimped sees that his wife sleeps with another man, he finally convinces himself that he had hallucinations and misjudged his wife. It presents a saint Gimped to readers. Throughout the story Elk commits numerous infidelities and eventually has six children, none of whom are Gimlet’s. On her deathbed she tells Gimped the truth and asks him to forgive her. After all Gimped is not a real saint, a dream evokes his spirit of evil thoughts. One night, the evil in his dreams abets him to urinate in the bread intended for the village in order to get revenge for the many injustices the villagers have forced him to endure over the years.

When he intends to do it, his dead wife alerts him in his ream, “you fool! Because I was false is everything false too? I never deceived anyone but myself. I’m paying for it all, Gimped. They spare you nothing here” (PA, 2). He suddenly wakes and realizes “A false step now and I’d lose Eternal Life” (PA, 5). His wife saves him from the devils spirit. In the end, he leaves Formally and liberates from his role as the village fool. Both protagonists are deceived by their wives, but also profit from their wives. M.

Latin spends a six- year happy and luxury life with his false wife and becomes a rich man cause his wife’s real jewelry brings him wealth, although he is very angry and sad when he finds that his wife betrays Zoo 3 him. However, his second real virtuous life makes him miserable. The ending makes one wonder “if being happy by dishonest values is worth the financial gains or if the unhappiness from honest values is worth the pain. ” Comparing with M. Latin, Gimped is also betrayed by his wife, but he plays a wise fool to forgive his wife. When he has some evil thoughts, he is warned by his wife and avoids making a mistake.
